ABOUT RMD
Revive Mind Design was created by New Jersey based artist SJ Mullan out of the desire to explore and share the various avenues of art that interest her. RMD is meant to encompass all works created by SJ and to allow room to expand into other avenues of art and products as her career develops. Much of the artwork on the site is being developed into wall art, stationary, and leggings in addition to being used as studies for large wall paintings. Some work for sale can be found here, but keep checking back as we’ll be updating designs in the upcoming months. The past few years, much focus has been put on teaching children, early childhood education, and developing artwork, in addition to developing CHILD ART CLASSES.
Having an assortment of design and industry experience, we may be able to assist you with a variety of graphic design and painting projects or refer you to a fellow artist who can. Just write a note via the contact page with any questions or email us at hello@reviveminddesign.com. We hope to collaborate with you soon!
After graduating Moore College of Art & Design with a BFA in Textiles and Art History, I spent many years working in various art and writing based gigs, juggling multiple design responsibilities working for small to medium sized businesses. I feel my current work was most informed by my experience working as a textile and graphic designer at a high end home furnishing company. The years spent designing pillows, bedding, rugs, and marketing materials expanded my love of pattern and textiles, rejuvenated a lifelong interest in home design, and sparked a real appreciation for using digital technologies to further push the work I create by hand. It also solidified the entrepreneurial mentality I’ve had since a child, which is when I first began creating products and sellable art. Luckily, my skills have come a long way from my beginnings selling painted paperweights to my neighbors.
While developing a product line, I’ve been busy painting custom accent walls and murals in PA, NJ, and NYC. I began consistently painting walls after seeing a kickstarter online raising funds for a school library. Empathetic and observant, I’ve always felt a deep need to create a space where the children in my then Philly neighborhood could feel positive, having long felt for those with impoverished or opioid addicted parents. I volunteered to paint a mural, and the project reawakened a desire to paint larger works. That led to recent years, where I’ve combined my interest in textiles, painting, and home design to remake rooms in schools and residential homes with accent walls, murals, and color. The jump from designing patterned fabric to patterned walls was a natural one.
I believe the way a space looks has an effect on mood, spirit, and outlook, and have long been fascinated with the concept of space itself and what it means to an individual. Murals are for everyone, and the areas that hold them are dramatically transformed through their presence. The art, what it conveys, and the respect it is given from a community can take a barren area and start a conversation, relay a message or history, make it beautiful, or do all of the above as it brightens the landscape. As my career and skills develop, I envision my layered and bold designs translated in a grand scale onto buildings, with viewers being so confronted with pattern and imagery that they are forced to stop and get lost in the art.
